Notes from nature

There is something truly special about lighting a Washi incense. It sets the mood in a calm, light, yet impactful way, with soothing aromas that subtly surround the room. Inspired by traditional Japanese craftsmanship and made from natural ingredients, the scents create a tone for a harmonious and atmospheric environment.

As a natural addition to your surroundings, our series of handmade scents from Kunjudo invites you to experience an authentic Japanese aromatic world. On Awaji Island in Japan, known for its mild climate and rich natural resources, scent masters have been crafting incense with precision since 1893.

Each of the five unique fragrances brings its own calming and uplifting presence, promoting peace, balance, and inspiration in any space.

With five earthy fragrance profiles – Floral Warmth, Elegant Agarwood, Deep Citrus, Mellow Grove, and Smoky Comfort – each incense has its personality, offering a unique experience.

Floral Warmth blends jasmine and sandalwood for a warm, relaxing effect, while Elegant Agarwood adds a mystical depth with hints of patchouli and vetiver. Deep Citrus brings a refreshing sense of energy, Mellow Grove creates a grounded balance, and Smoky Comfort invites pure coziness with warm notes of cinnamon and amber. Each paper incense burns for about four to five minutes, but the fragrance lingers in the room longer, with a gentle presence that allows you time to breathe deeply and find tranquility. The incense is easy to use and can also be placed in small rooms or books as a discreet, lasting aroma with natural references nearby.

"With its small, printed reminders like Take a break and Deep breath, Washi incense serves as a gentle pause from everyday life – a friendly invitation to enjoy moments of calm."

Washi paper incense is a new type of incense, made from Japanese washi paper. It is produced by grinding traditional stick incense into a powder, which is then mixed with water and applied to paper. This is a product that can only be made by incense artisans from Awaji, who have mastered the craft of creating washi paper.

The process of making Washi paper incense is deeply rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. Each incense stick starts as finely ground incense powder, which is mixed with water to form a delicate bond with the fibers of the washi paper. This unique fusion transforms traditional incense into a light, versatile paper incense that retains the depth of fragrance found in solid incense sticks but in a more modern and refined form.

Only the skilled artisans from Awaji Island, deeply rooted in the craft of washi paper, can produce this delicate incense, ensuring that each piece carries the nuanced aroma and subtlety that traditional Japanese incense is known for. The result is a sensory experience where fragrance meets art, making Washi paper incense more than just a product – it is a continuation of Japanese heritage, designed to bring tranquility and elegance to modern spaces.

This process and craftsmanship highlight the unique qualities of Washi paper incense: authenticity, artistic expression, and a lasting connection to nature and tradition.
